The University of Florence (UNIFI) in the Mara-Mediterra partnership has launched a contest among schools in Italy, inviting schools t0 send in a photo, podcast or video that captures the beauty and importance of soil and to express ideas for preserving it. Two winners will be selected and rewarded with a cash prize of 3000 Euro.
The contest runs with the motto: “Share your creation and spread the message: the soil is our treasure, and together we can adopt sustainable practices to ensure its future. Your voice matters!”
The contest “Down to earth!” launched by the Department of Agriculture, Food, Environment and Forestry (DAGRI) of the University of Florence, aims to promote the protection on one of the most precious natural resources: soil.
Often referred to as the “magic carpet,” soil regulates the cycles of water, air, and organic and mineral substances; it produces food and biomass, provides raw materials, and hosts billions of life forms working to keep it dynamic and vital.
Promoting proper soil management is therefore essential to preserving its quality and ensuring the well-being of our planet. Observing, understanding, and protecting the soil should become a daily exercise, good practices through which to defend this precious ally of humankind.
