Real Life Stories of Working with Nature-based Solutions: Manure and silvopastoral system of agroforestry

Date

This testimonial video showcases the experience of Michalis Pavlidis, an olive grower and livestock farmer in Petra, Lesvos, Greece.
Michalis implements a silvopastoral system, grazing sheep in his olive grove and utilizing their decomposed manure as fertilizer for the trees. The manure is usually collected in the summer, applied around the base of the olive trees in September, and gradually integrated into the soil with the help of moisture and rain. For an average olive tree, one bag of manure is applied annually. The cost of purchasing the manure is €3 per bag, compared to conventional fertilizers which cost €40 per bag. According to Michalis, the results of using manure as fertilizer for olive trees are 100% guaranteed.
Michalis Pavlidis is an active member of the Greek Living Lab of the Mara-Mediterra project in Lesvos Island.

The clip can be viewed with subtitles in English, French, Arabic, Greek and Turkish.
