Mara-Mediterra participates in World Day to Combat Desertification

Date

This year’s celebration coincided with an important milestone: the 30th anniversary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the sole global accord on sustainable land management, ratified by 196 countries and by the European Union.

To celebrate the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought on 17 June 2024, the PRIMA funded Mara-Mediterra project joined the on-line event entitled “Our Water, Our Legacy: Current Solutions for Future Generations” organized by the Desertification Research Center of the University of Sassari (NRD UNISS).

The event created the opportunity to bring the spotlight on key achievements which have resulted from EU funded research projects which share the common aim of bringing solutions to combat desertification and droughts. Aside from Mara-Mediterra, these included the PRIMA funded NATMed and OurMED projects, the ENI CBC MED funded NAWAMED and MEDISS projects, the Horizon Europe CARDIMED project, the Interreg Euro-MED funded URWAN project and the FLUOROSI and E.WAS/2 projects which are funded by the regional government of Sardinia.
